A/N- This is a Once-ler/Ted story. Just warning you now before anyone gets mad..... or thinks this story involves an OC. It might but the OC's will be minor characters, not really important to the story. So yes, this idea has been floating around in my head ever since I saw the Lorax in theaters. So here's the first Chapter. ENJOY.... and R&R please!
OoOoO
The Once-ler was 90 years old when he died.  It was a fine day, the date was April 25 2012. He and Ted had been friends for 6 years, Ted is now a strapping young man of 18. After they replanted all of the trees Ted kept coming to visit. Even though he didn't need to. He would come over  and help the old man clean, or just give him some company.
They were cleaning the house when the accident happened. The Once-ler was sweeping the floor while Ted did the dishes. The Once-ler felt an aweful pain in his chest and he collapsed. Ted in a worried haste broke the dish he was drying when he heard the loud crash and a  scream from the old man. He ran into the room and saw the Once-ler on the floor. He called an ambulance and he and the Once-ler were taken to the hospital.
The Once-ler was there for 4 weeks, Ted rarely ever left his side. The hospital even put a small cott in the corner of the room for Ted to sleep on. It wasn't very comfortable but Ted dealt  with it.
After 4 weeks in the hospital, the old man in the bed wasn't improving. So the Hospital sent him home and told Ted to make him comfortable and happy. Ted felt like crying, but he had to stay strong for the old man.
The Once-ler died a week after he got home. He was in his bed, with Ted by his side.
"Ted, I'm not long for this world." The Once-ler said.
"Don't talk like that. You can't leave me." Ted said while he grabbed the Once-lers hand.
"You were my best friend...." The Once-ler said with his dying breath.
Ted couldn't hold back anymore. He finally let all of the pent up tears fall. He didn't  want to lose the Once-ler.
After about a half hour of crying Ted called the numbers the hospital gave him when they sent the Once-ler home from the hospital. After they came and picked up the body Ted  went  home. He went up to his room and didn't come out for 2 whole days.
Since Ted was closest to the old man he was in charge of the funural. He used the money the Once-ler left him in his will to pay for everything. There weren't many people there, but it was still a beautiful ceremony. The Once-ler was burried on top of the highest hill in the cemetary. Ted sat by the old mans grave for about 2 hours after everyone left.
Time skip to 3 years later......
Ted is 21 years old now. He goes to the local college, and works at the book store near the campus. He is currently living in the Once-lers old house. The old man was kind enough to leave it to him in his will. Even though he lived there, it didn't feel like the house was his. He knew in his heart that the house will always belong to the Once-ler.
Every morning on Teds way out the door he shot a glance at the Once-lers bedroom door. He never went in there. He wouldn't feel right moving all of the old mans stuff out of the room he spent most of his life, and died in. So Ted took the room at the opposite end of the hall.
Today is saturday, and the anniversary of the Once-lers death. For the past 3 years on this day Ted would go to the Once-lers grave and talk to him for a while. Today was no different.
Ted got up early, showered and got dressed. He got into his car and drove the short drive to the cemetary. Ted hated the long walk up the hill. He didn't like not seeing the top of the hill while he was walking. He would sometimes hope that instead of a grave, he would see the old man sitting there, cane and guitar in hand. But that was just a fleeting dream.
"Hey old man, how've you been?" Ted asked as he sat down.
"I've been well. I got a promotion at work today. Well more of a pay raise, but it still counts." Ted said.
"You know, life isn't the same since you've been gone." Ted said sadly.
"Why did you have to leave me?" He asked. Tears starting to fall.
Ted spent a good 2 hours crying and talking to the man in the ground. He eventually got up and made the long trip down the hill to the car, then to his home.
Ted arrived back at his house and sat on the couch. He didn't feel like doing anything else today or anyday for that matter. He usually only left the house to go to school and work. Or to visit the Once-ler.
He glanced around the room. His eyes landed on the Once-lers guitar. Ted didn't really touch the guitar. He gave it the occasional dusting, but that was it. He usually stared at it. He would remember the tunes the Once-ler would play. He was an amazing guitar player. He tried to teach Ted, but Ted preferred to listen to the old man play it instead.
He started to humm a song the Once-ler used to play. He didn't know if the Once-ler made it up or if he learned it from some where, but Ted loved it all the same.
Ted was ripped from his thoughts when there was a knock on the door.
"I wonder who that could be." Ted thought as he walked to the door.
He opened the door, with more force than needed. He really didn't want to be bothered today. Any other day he would be fine with a surprise visitor, but not today.
Standing on the door step was a man with pitch black hair. He had amazing blue eyes, and he was very tall. He towered over Ted by a few feet.
"Can I help you?" Ted asked rather angrily.
"Yes, i'm looking for a Mr. Theodore wiggins." The man said with a smile.
"That's me." Ted said, trying to be polite to the stranger.
"Good, good. May I come in?" The man asked.
He didn't wait for an answer, he just put his hand on Ted's head and shoved him out of the way. The man walked into the living room and sat on the couch like he owned the place.
"Mind telling me what you're doing here?" Ted asked, extremely annoyed at this strange man in his house.
"I wanted to talk to you about the man who used to live here." The man said.
That was strange. Ted was sure the Once-ler didn't have many friends besides the animals.
"What do you want to know?" Ted asked.
"Do you have a picture of him?" The man asked.
Ted nodded slowly.
"Go get it." The man said.
Ted gave the man a weird look, but went to get the picture anyway. He came back and handed the picture to the man.
"Here, why do you want this?" Ted asked.
"I'm trying to prove something." The man said.
"And what would that be?" Ted asked crossing his arms.
"That i'm the man in this photo." He said holding the picture out to Ted.
OoOoO
Sooo there's the first chapter. I suck at writing stories..... What ever lol. R&R.
This is just a wip I made. My sis is making me write more chapters but idk if i'll upload them. I know there's probably a million grammer mistakes and the story it self isn't that good but oh well... tell me what you think.
